Welcome to the VisualSCOPE Demo Version!

This program installs a working model of both VisualSCOPE Digital Storage
Oscilloscope and the PCIP-SCOPE custom control. The working model is ALMOST
identical to the actual product, except that it generates only dummy data.
You may select either a "Full Install" or "Custom Install" when prompted.

After exploring this version, you can easily remove it from your system by
running the uninstall utility. See the instructions at the end of this
file. If you purchase the full product, you can just install it into the
directory where you installed this demo version. The install program will
automatically upgrade the demo versions of the files.

Important Note
--------------
When running ANY Windows installation or setup program, you should exit all
other Windows applications. This will avoid possible conflicts with running
applications using system components that the install program needs to
replace. For more information, see "System Modifications".

Full Install
------------
This option installs the VisualSCOPE Digital Storage Oscilloscope
application, the PCIP-SCOPE custom control, and several supporting components.
Most files are installed into a user-selected directory, but some files are
installed into the Windows system directory. For more information, see the
"Custom Install" and "Network Install" sections.

System Modifications
--------------------
The VisualSCOPE install program DOES NOT make any modifications to your
config.sys, autoexec.bat, win.ini, system.ini or any other configuration
files. A Full Install MAY update some Windows and 3rd-party DLLs in the
\windows\system directory. These files are updated ONLY if the versions on
your disk are older than the versions on the installation disks. For more
information, see the "Custom Install" section.

After you run VisualSCOPE for the first time, it will create its own
configuration file in your \windows directory called "VISSCOPE.INI". If you
delete this file, you will lose any setup and configuration information that
VisualSCOPE saved.

Custom Install
--------------
This option allows you to choose which components to install onto the hard
disk. You may also manually install single files from the distribution disks.
See the "Decompressing Files" section below.

VisualSCOPE application -- Digital Storage Oscilloscope and most supporting
                               files.
PCIP-SCOPE controls -- custom control and DLL for PCIP-SCOPE hardware.
Visual Basic 3.0 controls -- custom controls for VisualSCOPE.
Windows system files -- updated Windows DLLs and drivers.
Utilities -- utility for manually decompressing files.

If you want to run VisualSCOPE, you must install "VisualSCOPE application"
and "PCIP-SCOPE controls". You will also probably need to install the "Visual
Basic 3.0 controls". If you intend to only develop custom applications for the
PCIP-SCOPE board, then you only need to install "PCIP-SCOPE controls".

The "PCIP-SCOPE controls" are installed into your \windows\system directory.
This will allow VisualSCOPE and any applications you develop for the
PCIP-SCOPE to easily locate this hardware driver.

The "Visual Basic 3.0 controls" are installed in your \windows\system
directory. You may have installed already many of these files with Microsoft
Visual Basic 3.0 Professional Edition or other applications. VisualSCOPE may
replace existing files, but ONLY if the VisualSCOPE version is NEWER. Please
note that INSTALL may fail if any other application is actively using these
custom controls when INSTALL is run.

To prevent overwriting older versions of VB 3.0 custom controls in the
\windows\system directory, you can either not install the Visual Basic 3.0
controls or install them into the \windows directory by following the
instructions in Network Install below. You can also selectively install just
the files you are missing. See the section, "Uncompressing Files", below.

The "Windows system files" are installed in your \windows\system directory.
These files include Windows DLLs and drivers required to run VisualSCOPE and
are already installed on most systems. VisualSCOPE will only add these files
if they don't exist on your system.

Network Install
---------------
If you are running Windows from a network server, your workstation doesn't
have a local \windows\system directory for the PCIP-SCOPE controls and the
Windows system files. In this case, you should start the install program with
the "/N" switch to install these components into the local \windows directory.
Execute the install program from the Program Manager File/Run dialog using
"<drive>:install /N" as the command where <drive> is the location of the
installation disks.

Decompressing Files
-------------------
The executable and library files in VisualSCOPE are compressed. If you don't
use the installation program or you need to copy one of the original files
onto your hard disk, use the EXTRACT.EXE utility located on the first
diskette.

To decompress or extract a file to a specific destination directory, type:

EXTRACT /U:C:\WINDOWS\APPDIR A:\VISSCOPE.$00

You may specify wildcards for either the destination or the files.

Uninstall
---------
The installation process saves a log file of its activities in the directory
you selected for installing VisualSCOPE. This file, install.log, is a simple
ASCII text file that you can use for manually removing selected components.
Alternatively, you may uninstall VisualSCOPE from your system by inserting the
original installation disk and typing "<drive>:uninstall" as the command in
the Program Manager File/Run dialog. The uninstall program will guide you in
removing some or all VisualSCOPE files from your system. You can remove all
files except the Windows system files.
