The modules in this section extend .NET's built-in types with everyday operations that are either missing or unnecessarily verbose. Because the rest of CilwaLib depends on them, they live here in their own folder.

SuperStrings

Creating extension methods to the String object type.
Estimated reading time: 9 minute(s) (2103 words)

The low-level classes provided by .NET are nevertheless very powerful. However, they inexplicably omit some equally basic, and very useful properties and methods. While the effect of these missing elements can be performed by another combination of elements, doing so doesn't usually make for more readable code. And that's where extension methods and properties come in.

SuperDates

By: Paul S Cilwa	Posted: 4/10/2006 Page Views: 41
Hashtags: #Namtira #VisualBasic #VBNET #ClassLibrary #SuperDates #CilwaLib
Extension methods and classes to further enhance the date and time management classes.
Estimated reading time: 3 minute(s) (704 words)

.NET provides a powerful Date structure and a TimeSpan structure for working with dates and times. However, some common operations are either missing or unnecessarily verbose. SuperDates fills in those gaps with an AbsoluteMonth class for month-based arithmetic, and a handful of extension methods for everyday date tasks.

SuperFiles

By: Paul S Cilwa	Posted: 4/10/2026 Page Views: 43
Hashtags: #Namtira #VisualBasic #VBNET #ClassLibrary #FileSystem #FileInfo #DirectoryInfo #SuperFiles #CilwaLib
Extension methods for files and folders: rename, relative paths, attribute checks, and more.
Estimated reading time: 3 minute(s) (598 words)

The SuperFiles module adds extension methods to FileInfo, DirectoryInfo, and String that cover everyday file-system operations that .NET doesn't provide out of the box.

SuperColors

By: Paul S Cilwa	Posted: 4/10/2026 Page Views: 44
Hashtags: #Namtira #VisualBasic #VBNET #ClassLibrary #Color #HSL #HSV #HCL #Contrast #SuperColors #CilwaLib
Extension methods and structures for color conversion, manipulation, blending, and accessibility-focused contrast helpers.
Estimated reading time: 11 minute(s) (2527 words)

.NET's System.Drawing.Color stores RGB values cleanly and integrates well with WinForms and GDI+, but it stops short of offering tools for manipulating color in perceptual or design-oriented ways. There is no built-in support for HSL, HSV, or HCL—color spaces that make tasks like lightening a shade, generating harmonious palettes, or checking contrast far more intuitive. SuperColors fills that gap with three lightweight structures, a set of extension methods on Color, and accessibility helpers that make color manipulation both expressive and mathematically reliable.

SuperFonts

By: Paul S Cilwa	Posted: 4/10/2026 Page Views: 46
Hashtags: #Namtira #VisualBasic #VBNET #ClassLibrary #Font #TrueType #OpenType #SuperFonts #CilwaLib
Classes for loading, inspecting, and previewing TrueType and OpenType font files.
Estimated reading time: 3 minute(s) (682 words)

.NET can render any installed font, but it offers no convenient way to load a font file from disk, discover which styles it supports, or build a preview. SuperFonts provides two classes that fill this gap: FontFileInfo wraps a single font file and exposes its families and available styles, while FontFileList scans a folder (or the system Fonts directory) and collects the results.

SuperMessages

By: Paul S Cilwa	Posted: 4/10/2026 Page Views: 44
Hashtags: #Namtira #VisualBasic #VBNET #ClassLibrary #MessageBox #InputBox #SuperMessages #CilwaLib
Simplified wrappers around the standard MessageBox and InputBox dialogs.
Estimated reading time: 2 minute(s) (288 words)

WinForms provides MessageBox.Show for dialogs, but calling it with the right combination of buttons, icons, and default-button constants is verbose and easy to get wrong. SuperMessages wraps the three most common patterns—a yes/no question, a simple notification, and a text-input prompt—into short, readable functions with sensible defaults.

SuperImages

By: Paul S Cilwa	Posted: 4/10/2026 Page Views: 45
Hashtags: #Namtira #VisualBasic #VBNET #ClassLibrary #Image #Crop #Stretch #Cover #Fit #EXIF #SuperImages #CilwaLib
Extension methods for cropping, stretching, covering, and fitting images, plus EXIF property handling.
Estimated reading time: 12 minute(s) (2623 words)

SuperImages provides extension methods for common image operations—cropping, stretching, covering, and fitting—as well as a scale calculator class and a comprehensive EXIF property reader/writer for working with image metadata.

SuperMath

By: Paul S Cilwa	Posted: 4/10/2026 Page Views: 40
Hashtags: #Namtira #VisualBasic #VBNET #ClassLibrary #Percentage #Math #SuperMath #CilwaLib
Math utilities including a Percentage class for managing clamped values.
Estimated reading time: 2 minute(s) (345 words)

SuperMath currently contains the Percentage class, which manages a value and its maximum, automatically clamping the value between zero and the maximum. You can read or write either the raw value or the percentage, and the class keeps everything in sync. Two shared helper functions provide quick calculations without creating an object.
