Well, that was musical theatre! So that was the first album I played.
So not only did the lady's little ones (who were so adorable)
get to fall to sleep (somehow!) to the energizing sound of Motown, I got to discover a new
favorite singing group.
The Supremes are known for "Where Did Our Love Go?", "Baby Love" and "Stop! In the Name
of Love" and for other songs about love, longing and heartbreak.
I wasn't even tempted to treat the subject matter lightly.
So this song, which wasn't performed by the Supremes, is definitely an homage
to the beloved musical icons, instead performed by another of my alter-egos, The Mediocres.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Every night I wait beside the phone,
Counting up the minutes all alone.
You said you'd call me, boy, you said you'd stay,
Now the stars are fading, you're so far away.
[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, I don't know what I'd do,
If I lost a love so true.
[Chorus]
Don't let go of my heart, baby, don't let go,
You're the only one I'll ever know.
Hold me close and never say goodbye,
Don't let go of my heart, or I'll cry.
[Verse 2]
Walking down the street, I see your face,
In every crowded corner, every place.
They say it's just a little summer fling,
But you gave me everything.
[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, I don't know what I'd do,
If I lost a love so true.
[Chorus]
Don't let go of my heart, baby, don't let go,
You're the only one I'll ever know.
Hold me close and never say goodbye,
Don't let go of my heart, or I'll cry.
[Bridge]
Ooh, take my hand, don't walk away,
Tell me that you're here to stay.
Ooh, love is all I've got to give,
Baby, please, I can't live without you.
[Chorus]
Don't let go of my heart, baby, don't let go,
You're the only one I'll ever know.
Hold me close and never say goodbye,
Don't let go of my heart.
[Outro]
Don't let go... don't let go of my heart,
Oh baby, baby, don't let go.
Don't let go... (don't let go of my heart)
Ooh, baby, baby.
